ANNUAL CLONCURRY ROCKHANA GEM & MINERAL FESTIVAL 5 & 6 JULY 2008

Opening hours are 9:00AM to 5:00PM daily. The Rockhana Gem and Mineral Festival is a unique event showcasing local fossicking sites and gemstones to be found in the Cloncurry Shire. Cloncurry is presently experiencing a mineral boom and the Rockhana is a celebration of the importance of mining to the town. The minerals of the area are a significant factor in defining the nature of Cloncurry and the Great North West of Queensland, since Ernest Henry first discovered copper and developed the Great Australia Mine. The Cloncurry Shire is rich in gold, copper, garnets, amethyst, Maltese crosses as well as minor minerals. Earnest Henry mine tours will leave from the park at 10:00AM Friday. A wide variety of refreshments are available and entry is free.

Read interesting articles

Read our collection of articles brought together into our collection from all over the internet.  We write some to document a particularly interesting field trip but more interestingly we help to take you around the world into places you will only dream of visiting.  We don't claim to have travelled to these places only that like you we dream about it.  While I have copied some articles onto this site I do not claim copyright only fair use.  You will see that I have provided a link to the original site so that the author receives all credit and often to lead you to more information related to the article.

Learn about gemstones

Ever bought a coloured gemstone for a loved one but weren't exactly sure whether you paid a fair price?  Perhaps you have heard the argument that that cheap sapphire you just bought will never be an investment nor will it ever rival the beauty of a craftsman cut gem, so how do you tell the quality of the stone you purchased?  Maybe you just want to learn a bit more about gemstones or just look at the pretty pictures.  Don't forget our gallery by the way, we may not take you to the wilds of Borneo but then doesn't Australia have it's own unique beauty?
